MATCH REPORT

PORT FC 2-0 SCG MUANGTHONG UNITED
02-DEC-2020
PAT STADIUM
Toyota Thai League Matchday 8
(resecheduled)

SCG Muangthong United lost 2-0 to the league's second place team in a rescheduled match from earlier in the season.  Despite the scoreline, the Kirin played quite well, with the better share of ball possession, and had more shots on goal.  As it is with football, however, sometimes this is not enough as the Kirin were not able to capitalize on their chances.

The match was made more difficult with the absence of two key players, both of them part of the foreigner contingent and goal scorers for the club.  Willian Popp, who was awared goal-of-the-month recently, and Sardor Mirzaev were both sidelined with injuries and are not expected back for at least a month.

Coach Gjurovski looked to fill their roles with two of the youngsters who have moved into the first team from the club's academy this season.  Sorawith Panthong, and later in the game Porament Arjivrai, were given the chance to show what they could do against some of the best players in the league.  Said Gjurovski after the match, "I'm proud of these young players, just look at what they can do."

Muangthong, who have played four games in 17 days, are in action again this Sunday with the league leaders at the SCG Stadium for an FA CUP Round of 32 match, and then the following Friday another home game, this time PT Prachuap in Thai League Matchday 14.
